Last weekend’s Easingwold International Festival was a huge success! The town welcomed performers from Nigeria, India, Eastern Europe and Zimbabwe who delighted locals with music, dancing, singing and storytelling.
Over the course of the weekend over 230 people came to the events which were held in the Community Library and the Methodist Church Hall.
The community learned so much about the different cultures in an entertaining way.
The Nigerian dancers were wonderful to watch in their colourful costumes and we enjoyed seeing a Nigerian artist at work.
His completed artwork will be donated to the library so everyone will have a chance to see it in the future.
The festival then moved to the library where the two Indian dancers were spellbinding in both performances, along with the musician playing the tabla and santoor.
Their storytelling was fascinating and quite moving.
‘Ey Up Klezmer! were so entertaining with their Klezmer music alongside storytelling from Ruth Story Weaver.
They even had people up and dancing in the library! (we have their names and they are now barred).
The festival ended with a Zimbabwean singing workshop which gave us an insight into a totally new way to learn and sing to a different beat.
Everyone was amazed by the emotional power of the performance and the wonderful sound everyone was able to produce together.
Rebecca Rowan has provided a backdrop of mindful photography which has complemented the festival and her exhibition is still on display in the library.
The Easingwold International Festival for 2025 has been a huge success – bring on 2026!
